Ratikant Mohapatra and Enakshi Das - Odissi

June 18, 7pm
Stanley Milner Library Theatre

Ratikant Mohapatra has carved a space for himself as a dancer, percussionist, teacher, choregrapher and archivist of Odissi. Born into the highly regarded family of Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra & Laxmipriya Mohapatra, he improvised on his own natural talents and inclination towards dance and music from an early age. Having mastered the mardala (Odissi Pakhawaj) and its nuances he was steadily stepping into the shoes of his father as a class percussionist. The brand of the Kelu Charan gharana is evident in the hypnotic strokes, eternal in the minds of the connoisseurs.

Enakshi Das Sinha is an established Odissi dancer in the field of Indian classical dance. Enakshi cultivated a life -long devotion to Indian classical dance starting with Bharatnatyam from the tender age of five. Trained in Bharatanatyam dance in Kalamandalam under the guidance of Smt. Thankumuni Kutty. She later passionately fell in love with Odissi dance and learns this subtle dance form from Sharmila Biswas at Odissi Vision & Movement Centre (OVM) and became a regular repertory dancer in her Company.
