Indian classical musician Amjad Ali Khan is a legend of our times, one of those handful of virtuousi whose mastery of his instrument (the sarod) opens the realms of the imagination and evokes the deepest truths of the human experience.

His technical mastery, flawless technique, and spellbinding compositions make an Amjad Ali Khan concert the musical experience of a lifetime. And when he is heard in an acoustically perfect hall, tuned to resonate with every nuance of the artist's expression, the experience is unforgettable.

Khan Sahib is the star piece attraction of the Year of India in Canada. And thanks to the generous sponsorship and support of the High Commission of India in Ottawa, Edmonton music lovers can experience this virtuoso's work in an acoustically perfect setting, at a deeply discounted admission price.

Amjad Ali Khan is the sixth generation sarod player in his family. His ancestors of famous musicians come from the Bangash lineage of the Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India. His family developed and shaped the instrument of the sarod over several hundred years from the rubab, an Iranian folk instrument. Amjad Ali Khan is the youngest son of Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan, a musician of the royal family of Gwalior who received musical tuition from descendants or followers of Mian Tansen (c1520-1590) one of India's most celebrated singers and court musicians to the great Mughal emperor Akbar.
